Responsible travel begins before arrival. Carry reusable bottles, minimise packaging and choose operators who work with local guides. On the trail, remain on established paths, keep noise low and never carve names into rock or historic structures.
Bring all waste back, including biodegradable-looking tissues and fruit peels that alter wildlife behaviour. Ask before photographing residents, dress respectfully near sacred spaces and buy locally where possible. Small group habits determine whether popular landscapes remain welcoming and healthy.
Leave No Trace begins with the operator
Ask how waste, toilets, water and local payments are handled before booking. UN Tourism describes sustainable tourism as accounting for economic, social and environmental impacts and the needs of visitors, industry, environment and host communities. That means small personal actions and business decisions belong together.
On the trail
Remain on the agreed route, take every wrapper and tissue out, avoid soap in natural water, do not feed wildlife, keep sound low and ask before photographing people. Do not carve or paint heritage. Pay fairly for local services and respect when a community or authority restricts access.
